Customs
House
The 2007 ATTA Conference will be held in the rooms of historic Customs
House.
Customs House is a heritage listed building which was built in 1886 and
opened in 1889.It’s Corinthian architecture distinguishes it from
the modern surrounds of high rise buildings. It stands directly on a picturesque
bend of the Brisbane River. It was the focal point for port activities for
many years.
The University of Queensland took over the lease to Customs House in 1991
after the building had fallen into disuse in 1988.UQ restored the interior
of the building to reflect its stately architecture.to the tune of 7.5 million.
It is now a popular choice for many events and boasts several luxurious
rooms highly sought after for conferences. The history of the building marries
perfectly with the age-old pursuit of knowledge powered by academic innovation.
Customs House is a continuing monument to the rich history of Brisbane in
a myriad of ways.
