The Honourable Dr Bruce Harvey McPherson, CBE, has had a distinguished legal career.

Dr McPherson was born in South Africa and educated at Durban High School. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Natal and continued his higher education by completing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Cambridge. He immigrated to Australia in 1960 and earned a PhD from The University of Queensland.

In 1963 he was admitted to the Queensland Bar where he practised for over a decade. Dr McPherson was a member of the Queensland Law Reform Commission from 1969 to 1982, during which time his achievements included the Property Law Act 1974 (Qld) which clarified and modernised this area of law.

In 1990 he was appointed a Judge of Appeal of the High Court of Solomon Islands. In 1991 he was appointed an inaugural Judge of the Queensland Court of Appeal where he served until retiring in September 2006.

Dr McPherson is one of the leading legal minds in commercial law today. His text, “The Law of Company Liquidation” is now in its 5th edition.

The TC Beirne School of Law is proud to honour Dr McPherson as a graduate of the school and as the inspiration for the McPherson Lecture Series.
