The Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law (CPICL) has been granted an award to fund a PhD Scholarship under the joint University of Queensland-Institute of Public Affairs Project on Science and Environment. The scholarship is one of four created under this project aimed at promoting evidence based research on the environment. The scholarship holder will conduct doctoral research within CPICL’s research program on Environmental Law and Policy headed by Professor Suri Ratnapala and will collaborate with three other scholarship holders within the School of Land and Food Sciences.
The legal research will focus on the suitability and efficiency of current laws and administrative processes for determining environmental goals, impacts, options, costs and benefits and the development of regulatory models that allow the application of sound science and appropriate economic instruments in meeting the challenges of environmental management.
The scholarships are worth $25,000 per year plus allowances over three and a half years.
