Professor Nick Gaskell

Welcome to the TC Beirne Law School. This was the first law school in Queensland, established in 1936, with the generous financial assistance of the Brisbane entrepreneur, Mr TC Beirne (1860-1949). The TC Beirne Law School remains the most popular law school in the State for several significant reasons.

Its faculty are at the cutting edge of legal research and legal education. The impact of its legal research is felt locally, nationally and internationally. The faculty benefits from the generosity of its vast alumni network, particularly with every level of the legal profession both locally and nationally. A wide range of combined degrees provides over a period of five years an interdisciplinary education beyond the LLB. This equips its graduates with the best possible skills with which to pursue their professional careers. Our mission is to ensure that they emerge from this student experience as mature adults, with strong peer links, well-equipped to face the challenges of professional life, committed to life-long learning, and eagerly sought by employers. Moreover, this student experience occurs on a beautiful campus which offers all the facilities, both academic and extra-curricular, to ensure its enjoyment.

This Law School fully appreciates that it cannot simply stand on its laurels. Its continued popularity requires constant review and new initiatives to ensure that it adequately responds to the challenges of each age. Ultimately, what distinguishes any law school is the contribution it makes to improving the rule of law within society. It is a noble mission to which this Law School is passionately committed.
