UQ Graduate The Honourable Justice Margaret McMurdo was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
Justice McMurdo graduated from the law school at the University of Queensland in 1975. She practiced as a barrister in both government and private practice until she was appointed the first Queensland female judge in 1991. In 1998, she was appointed President of the Queensland Court of Appeal, the first woman in Australia to be appointed to such a position.
Justice McMurdo has been recognised for her service to the law and judicial administration in Queensland, particularly in the areas of legal education, women and indigenous issues, and continues to support a range of legal organisations and community groups.
