 Evaluation of Overseas Qualifications


This Law School is authorised by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board to evaluate overseas legal qualifications. Evaluations should be undertaken in the Australian state in which the applicant plans to be admitted to the legal profession.

For an evaluation to be undertaken the following documents must be supplied:

  • a certified copy of academic qualification(s) which must include the courses completed and the grades that were achieved. Please include full course outlines/profiles.
  • a certified copy of the degree certificate.
  • a certified copy of the applicant's passport ID page.
  • a bank cheque or international bank draft payable to The University of Queensland Law School in the sum of $AUD500. Payment must be in Australian dollars, payable on an Australian bank & free of all charges.
  • Certified copies of any other documents considered relevant for law study and/or overseas admission.

The certification of documents must be completed by a Justice of the Peace or specifically appointed government official.

Documents must be provided in English. If the documents have been translated into English, they must be accompanied by an appropriate certification.

The evaluation takes approximately four weeks to be completed, but may take up to six weeks at university peak admission times. Applicants are sent a letter which clearly states what academic requirements need to be completed by them for admission in Queensland.

Following notification of the evaluation results, applicants may apply to study the required courses at The University of Queensland or apply to study the equivalent courses at another Queensland University.

This study will fulfil the academic requirements to practise law in Queensland. Students must also complete the practical requirements to be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner.
