Two academic staff members from UQ’s TC Beirne School of Law were involved in teaching intensive courses in the Australian Legal System and International Trade Law to post-graduate students in China.

Mr Paul O’Shea and Dr Alan Davidson visited the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT) in May to deliver the courses and to give the post-graduate students a feel for university life in Australia.

Under an agreement between the SIFT Law School and the TC Beirne School of Law, students enrolled in the Master of Laws and Master of Applied Law programs at SIFT may finish their program at The University of Queensland after completing the necessary units at home.

Mr O’Shea said he enjoyed teaching and working with staff at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade.

“The enthusiasm of the staff and students made this one of my best experiences teaching in Asia”, he said.

Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade has a law school of fifty academic staff and approximately two thousand students.

Six SIFT post-graduate students will continue their studies at The University of Queensland from semester two, 2007.
