Students who commenced the LLB pre-2005
Honours is awarded on the basis of the GPA for the first attempt in all LAWS courses. The classes of honours are:

Students who commenced the LLB in 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008
A new University-wide honours policy was implemented in 2004 for students commencing programs from 2005. This honours policy has been suspended in relation to the LLB pending further review.
Currently, the rules for honours in the LLB state:

Entry: To enrol for honours, a student must —
| (a) |
gain a GPA of 5.7 in level 1, 2 and 3 compulsory LAWS courses; and |
| (b) |
be currently enrolled in the pass degree program; and |
| (c) |
satisfy the head of school that the student has the necessary qualifications to undertake honours in law. |

Program requirements: An honours student must complete the work set by the executive dean and head of school. |

Award of pass degree: An honours student who completes the pass degree program requirements and does not complete honours may be awarded the pass degree. |
For students who commenced the LLB in 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008, the award of honours will be determined as follows:
- All students will be assumed to have met the GPA of 5.7 to be eligible for honours.
- ‘The work set by the executive dean’ will mean that students simply complete the remaining requirements of the LLB program (ie there will be no requirement to undertake particular honours courses).
- The class of honours will be determined on the basis of the GPA for the first attempt in all LAWS courses. The classes of honours are:
