Students who commenced the LLB prior to 2004 have the opportunity to specialise in a selection of courses in their electives. To these students the school of law offers a certificate of specialisation in the following areas:
- General Legal Practice
- Property Law
- Commercial Law
- Taxation Law
- International Law
- Law and Society
- Legal Professional Skills
Specialisations are optional and students are limited to taking only one certificate of specialisation.
For the student who wants to undertake a specialisation, completion of five courses in the specialisation group will entitle the student, once he or she has graduated, to a certificate of specialisation from the Head of School.
Rules for specialisation
- A 'specialisation' means the successful completion of five (5) courses in a defined specialisation group.
- The Head shall grant a person a certificate of specialisation when the person has:
- completed the requirements for the awarding of the degree of Bachelor of Laws;
- completed a specialisation; and
- applied in the prescribed form to the Head for the granting of a certificate of specialisation.
- A person shall be eligible for a certificate in one (1) specialisation only.
How to apply for a specialisation
On completing the requirements for the LLB, a student who has also met the requirements for a specialisation may apply to the Head of School for a certificate of specialisation. An Application Form must be completed, and submitted to the Head of School.
