 How to Apply?

Who may enrol in courses

  1. The postgraduate courses are available for degree accreditation for students enrolled in a postgraduate degree at The University of Queensland or any other recognised university. Postgraduate students of other recognised universities may enrol cross-institutionally at UQ for credit towards their degrees at their home institution.

  2. Registrants who do not wish degree accreditation may also enrol. They become part of the TC Beirne School of Law Executive Education Program (EEPD). This enrolment is usually open to graduates in any discipline from a recognised university. Executive Education registrants do not, of course, undertake the assessment requirements but attend the course for the professional benefits.

Other Programs:

The TC Beirne School of Law offers numerous other postgraduate programs which are compatible with the maritime and related courses listed above and which would enhance the scholar's program.

  • Click here to view a list of the postgraduate programs offered by the TC Beirne School of Law in 2007.
  • Click here to visit the Professional Legal Seminar Series and the Professional Legal Course Series website which is part of the TC Beirne School of Law's Executive Education program in 2007.

Guest Lecturers:

The courses are enhanced by the input from Guest Lecturers, many of whom are leading Australian and international experts in their respective areas.

PhD and Research Masters (MPhil) degrees:

The Marine & Shipping Law Unit can facilitate supervision of a PhD thesis in a maritime law area in the TC Beirne School of Law. With special permission the PhD can be undertaken by remote candidates (distant students) as supervision can be done electronically as well as with personal contact. It is a requirement of the University, however, that remote candidate students spend at least 9 weeks at the St Lucia campus to satisfy the University requirements and come to know and be known by the Law School. PhD studies may be undertaken full time or part time. The Marine & Shipping Law Unit can also facilitate supervision of a thesis for Master of Philosophy (MPhil) candidates in maritime law areas (formerly the ‘Master of Laws by research’ degree). Arrangements for remote candidates to undertake an MPhil are similar to those for PhD candidates. Candidates are required to have legal training (as well as other qualifications).
