Collapsed crane – Where do you stand? A Hypothetical Debate

The TC Beirne School of Law, Marine and Shipping Law Unit, in conjunction with the Nautical Institute and the Company of Master Mariners of Australia is proud to present a hypothetical debate on the “Zim Mexico III” incident.

The debate will be facilitated by The Hon. Justice Allsop and will be based on the facts leading up to the recent conviction of Capt Schroeder of the “Zim Mexico III” in Alabama, USA.

The ship which was being manoeuvred by an American pilot at the time, hit a container crane located on the wharf resulting in the death of an electrician working on the crane.

Capt Schroeder was convicted of criminal negligence because he knew the bow thruster on the ship was not operating properly.

Refreshments will be provided following the debate.

This event is proudly sponsored by Blake Dawson Waldron.
