Introduction to Mooting at UQ

Law Books

The TC Beirne School of Law is committed to providing students with the highest standard of legal education so that they are equipped with the skills that will allow them to successfully practise their profession in a dynamic and increasingly complex environment. Our mooting programme represents the best accelerated learning programme available to equip our students with the research and advocacy skills to prepare them for their professional lives.

The Law School has entered teams in national and international moot competitions for many years. With coaching from academic staff within the Law School and our mooting alumni, various teams over the past ten years have enjoyed tremendous success. At the international level, mooting teams from the University of Queensland have been unrivalled in their achievements. For instance the UQ Law School is the only school to have won the highly prestigious Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot twice - first in 1998 and again in 2000 and the prestigious Jessup International Law Mooting Competition in 2005.

The Law School’s mooting programme can be broadly segmented into the following:

»
International and national mooting competitions;
»
International and national mediation, negotiation, client interviewing and arbitration competitions;
»
Faculty mooting competitions;
»
Educational activities; and
»
Publications.

The UQ Mooting Program gratefully acknowledges the generous support of its major sponsors, Allens Arthur Robinson, Dibbs Abbott Stillman and Minter Ellison.
