Scholarships & Prizes
The TC Beirne School of Law has a proud tradition of providing undergraduate and postgraduate legal education of the highest quality. The School’s outstanding teaching staff and deep commitment to students have contributed to its reputation for excellence.
As part of this commitment, the School offers students a number of prizes and scholarships annually. Prizes or scholarships that require an application to be made are advertised by the School.
Law School scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance to students with recognised academic potential who are able to demonstrate financial need. The number, duration and amount of each scholarship to be awarded will be determined by the relevant Scholarship Selection Committee.
The following scholarships are offered:
- domestic students enrolled or enrolling in the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program
- overseas students enrolled or enrolling in the Master of Laws (LLM) program
- domestic students enrolled or enrolling in the Master of Laws (LLM) program - The Richard Cooper Scholarship
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law also offers scholarships to international students seeking admission to the TC Beirne School of Law.
There are many gifted young people who have the ability to study law but who are precluded from doing so because of their financial circumstances. The TC Beirne School of Law Scholarship Endowment Fund provides financial assistance to such students through Law School Scholarships. For more information, please click here.
The Cooper Grace Ward Scholarship is aimed at providing assistance to financially disadvantaged students with university studies and living expenses. The UQLS provides this Scholarship to one student each semester for an amount of up to $500. The Cooper Grace Ward Scholarship application form and assessment policy are accessible on the UQLS website.
Most prizes are awarded to students on the basis of the greatest proficiency in a particular course or courses. These prizes are automatically awarded ie students are not required to submit an application.

The Research Scholarships Office in the University’s Graduate School administers the major research scholarship schemes for students undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil).
Scholarship information and application forms are available from the Graduate School Website.
The Law School offers the Owen Fletcher Postgraduate Research Publication Award for RHD students. Details of the Award will be made available to all RHD students when applications are called for each year.
The TC Beirne School of Law offers UQ undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in the UQ Summer Research Scholarship Program. This experience provides students with the opportunity to work with a researcher in a formal research environment so that they may experience the research process and discover what research is being undertaken in their field of interest at the School.
The TC Beirne School of Law offers UQ undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in the UQ Winter Research Scholarship Program. This experience provides students with the opportunity to work with a researcher in a formal research environment so that they may experience the research process and discover what research is being undertaken in their field of interest at the School.
- The Aurora Project offers a number International Indigenous scholarships.
