A UQ Maritime Law expert has been awarded a Doctor of Science (honoris causa) in Maritime Affairs from the World Maritime University.
TC Beirne School of Law Adjunct Professor Edgar Gold received the doctorate for outstanding contributions to international maritime law and the World Maritime University.
Professor Gold said he felt privileged to be in the notable company of those who have also had such doctorates awarded to them by the World Maritime University.
"The World Maritime University gives very few honorary degrees and when I look at the names of those who have been so honoured I feel in exalted company", he said.
"It is especially satisfying to be so honoured by an international institution in the UN family with which I have been involved for over 25 years as a professor, advisor and member of the Board of Governors."
Professor Gold received the award from the World Maritime University Chancellor, His Excellency E.E. Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization at a graduation ceremony held in Malmo, Sweden on October 7.
The World Maritime University was established in 1983 by the International Maritime Organisation, a United Nations specialised agency. They provide specialised postgraduate education in maritime affairs and carry out a wide range of maritime research.
